Going Green
Interested in going green? It’s not as hard as it sounds. Here are some tips and ideas to get you started.
Easy tips for everyday “greening” in your office environment you can do now:
- Use your devices “green” features. “Energy Save” or “Quick Start” modes shorten warm-up time and reduce energy usage. Triple rewards: lower energy costs, lower energy usage and time savings.
- Duplex, duplex, duplex. It’s simple – use both sides of the paper.
- Use page layout or image combination. When possible, print more than one page on each page. For example, print 2- or 4-up pages per printed page using Page Layout when printing or using Image Combination mode.
- Print preview. Wherever it is available. Always. Some devices also offer print preview option at the device as well as at the desktop. Prevention = savings. No more printing unwanted pages.
- Scan. Simply put, use electronic files as much as possible. Converting paper documents to e-files saves storage space, paper, resources. It makes sense in so many ways.
- Reduce the number of your devices. Install a few energy-efficient multi-function printers and copiers to replace a large number of costly individual printers, copiers, scanners and fax machines.

- Some energy companies charges by taking one 15-minute time period when you use the most energy and bill on that rate - usually the time when all the equipment and lights come on in an office.
- If you can stagger the time when your systems come on, you can lower the peak kilowatt usage, and you can save some dollars without doing much. If your energy provider charges based on peak usage, ask for an energy-use profile for a typical day to find the point that usage is at its peak.
