Printer Overload
An international biochemical equipment manufacturer wanted to reduce costs, be more “green” and get some relief for their IT staff.
Before making any recommendations, Datamax stepped back and looked at the overall picture. Because the client was unaware of their true printing costs, using our OnSite Print Manager we identified these costs for them, including their toner cartridges costs and their cost per page.
Reducing Costs
With information gathered through OnSite, Datamax audited the entire fleet. Working with the customer, the highest cost per page printers were eliminated. On our recommendation, they consolidated their fleet and added multifunction devices to further reduce operating costs. As a result of our audit and recommendations, the customer:
- Reduced their fleet of printers from 230 down to 45.
- Added MFPs that duplex – to encourage scanning more rather than printing.
- Added more multifunction capability within a number of departments - fewer faster devices that were capable of doing more
It is Easy Being Green
Meeting the green initiative was simple – once the number of devices was decreased and consolidated, the required number of toner cartridges and power consumption decreased.
In addition, the functionality of the new MFPs encourages the increased use of scanning to desktop or email versus printing, as well as duplex (two-sided) printing.

And IT Breathed a Sigh of Relief
By having fewer devices on the network, their IT staff directly and immediately benefitted. Datamax now manages their fleet and monitoring and reporting on the performance of their fleet through the use of OnSite Print Manager
A more important benefit: our OnCall Help Desk now takes all printer-related calls that their IT staff used to take.
