Surfing the web is one of the most significant vulnerabilities to your corporate network, according to an Osterman Research study* just released.
And if you only do little to protect your network, or even worse, ignore the vulnerability entirely, it can cost you in a big way.
According to Osterman, 55% of mid-sized and large organizations had been infiltrated by a Web exploit during the previous 12 months, up from 39% the year before. They found that small- and mid-sized organizations are particularly vulnerable to Web attacks due to lack of adequate IT staff and technical expertise necessary to detect and remediate threats before they can do real damage.
Just how much damage can one Trojan do? Osterman said that a banking Trojan cost an auto parts supplier in Georgia $75,000 in losses, and a county government in Kentucky lost more than $400,000 another Trojan attack. Ouch!
With estimates that up to 85% of malware is distributed through the Web, it makes good business sense to take proactive action to protect your network.
The old adage “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” doesn’t apply here. If you don’t act proactively to protect your network, it will be too late.
